Mac & Linux
No Mac or Linux client, but the Windows client runs well through Wine-based tools. There is no kernel anti-cheat, so nothing blocks it.

Start file
Before you start
- Get the Full Client. Download it from the home page and unpack it. You get a 6.1 GB folder called Lineage II. Put it somewhere permanent, for example Games/Lineage II in your home folder.
- Apply a newer System zip. If the site shows a newer System download than your client has, unpack it over the Lineage II folder and replace the files.
- Start l2.exe, not LineageII.exe. The game is Lineage II/system/l2.exe. LineageII.exe in the top folder is the old NCsoft updater and does nothing here.
- No launcher. Our launcher is Windows-only. Use the zips.
- AGP warning on every start. Click OK. It is a 2007 graphics check that Wine does not pass. The game is not affected.
- Windowed by default. The game opens at 1280x720. Alt+Enter (Option+Return on a Mac) toggles fullscreen. Resolution is in the in-game Options.
- Two clients work. Start the second one the same way as the first.
Downloads are on the home page.
macOS
Any Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) or Intel Mac. Apple Silicon needs Rosetta 2: macOS offers it the first time, or run softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license in Terminal.
Pick a tool
| Tool | Cost | Status |
|---|---|---|
| CrossOver | Paid, 14-day free trial | Tested, recommended |
| Sikarugir | Free | Not tested by us |
| Whisky | Free | Discontinued, do not use |
CrossOver setup
- 1Install CrossOver from codeweavers.com, open it and choose Try Now.
- 2Unpack the client and move the
Lineage IIfolder toGamesin your home folder. No need to copy it into the bottle. - 3Choose Bottle > New Bottle, name it
Lineage II, pick Windows 10, click Create. - 4Select the bottle and click Run Command. Browse to
Lineage II/system/l2.exe, tick Save Command as Launcher, click Run. - 5Click OK on the AGP warning. Option+Return for fullscreen.
- Leave Graphics on Auto. Advanced Settings > Graphics. Auto picks wined3d, which works. DXVK gave a black screen on Apple Silicon; D3DMetal and DXMT do not cover DirectX 9.
- Trial. Full function for 14 days, then a licence is needed (USD 74 at the time of writing).
- Tested on: MacBook Pro M4 Pro, macOS 26, CrossOver 26.3.
Sikarugir (free, untested)
Open-source successor of Wineskin. Needs macOS 14.6 or later. Install with Homebrew, create a wrapper in its Creator app and point it at Lineage II/system/l2.exe.
brew trust Sikarugir-App/sikarugir brew install --cask Sikarugir-App/sikarugir/sikarugir
Black screen? Switch the wrapper's DirectX 9 engine from D9VK to WineD3D.

Linux
A 64-bit distribution with 32-bit libraries (Steam and Lutris handle that) and any GPU. Proton and DXVK need Vulkan; plain Wine also runs on OpenGL.
Pick a tool
| Tool | When to use |
|---|---|
| Steam + Proton | Recommended, also on Steam Deck |
| Lutris | Wine runner, good if you already use it |
| Plain Wine | Terminal setup, most control |
Steam + Proton setup
- 1Unpack the client zip.
- 2In Steam: Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library. Click Browse, set the file type to All Files, pick
Lineage II/system/l2.exe, click Add Selected Programs. - 3Right-click the entry, Properties > Compatibility, tick Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, pick the newest Proton.
- 4Click Play, then OK on the AGP warning.
- Wayland window problems? Invisible, tiny or stuck window: install GE-Proton 11-7 or newer (for example with ProtonUp-Qt) and pick it in step 3.
- Steam Deck. Do steps 1-3 in Desktop Mode, then play from Game Mode. A keyboard helps for login and chat.
Lutris settings
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Add | + > Add locally installed game |
| Runner | Wine (a recent Wine or Wine-GE build) |
| Executable | Lineage II/system/l2.exe |
| Working directory | Lineage II/system |
| Black screen? | Turn DXVK off in the runner options |
Plain Wine (Ubuntu / Debian)
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 sudo apt update sudo apt install wine wine32 wine64 winetricks winbind export WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-l2 WINEARCH=win32 wineboot --init winetricks corefonts cd ~/Games/"Lineage II"/system && wine l2.exe
Wine 9 or newer works. corefonts fixes missing text. Other distributions have the same packages.
Problems and fixes
| You see | Fix |
|---|---|
| AGP warning on every start | Click OK. Harmless, cannot be turned off. |
| Black screen after Alt+Enter | Press Alt+Enter again. Wayland: GE-Proton 11-7+. CrossOver: Graphics on Auto, never DXVK. |
| Missing text or buttons (Linux) | Run winetricks corefonts in the prefix, or use Steam and Proton. |
| Anti-bot check shows a black box | Click "No picture?" in the popup to redraw it. Known on CrossOver. |
| "Can't bind to native class ..." | System folder does not match the client. Unpack the System zip again over the game folder. |
| Second client will not start | Start it from the same bottle or Steam entry as the first. |
| Custom interface | Install it as on Windows. Not tested on Mac or Linux yet. |
